Components of Distillation Column Internals
1. Trays and Plates
Function: Trays and plates provide surfaces for the vapor and liquid phases to come into contact, facilitating mass transfer.

Sieve Trays: Perforated plates that allow vapor to pass through the liquid. They are simple and cost-effective.
Valve Trays: Similar to sieve trays but with valves that open and close based on vapor flow, offering better control and efficiency.

4. Distributors and Redistributors
Function: Distributors ensure uniform distribution of liquid over the packing or trays, while redistributors correct any maldistribution that may occur as the liquid flows down the column.
Types:
Liquid Distributors: Designed to spread the liquid evenly across the column's cross-section.
Liquid Redistributors: Installed at intervals to correct distribution and ensure consistent performance.

5. Support Plates and Grids
Function: These components provide mechanical support for the packing materials.
Types:
Support Plates: Perforated plates that hold the packing in place while allowing vapor and liquid to pass through.

Structural stability.
Consistent performance of the packing.

6. Demister Pads
Function: Demister pads, or mist eliminators, capture entrained liquid droplets from the vapor stream, preventing them from leaving the column.
Types:
Wire Mesh Pads: Made of fine mesh, they provide a large surface area to trap droplets.
Vane-type Demisters: Use angled vanes to direct vapor flow and separate droplets by inertia.
